Cezanne

Still life produced using chalk pastels after looking at the work of Cezanne.

Elmer Theme

Each child had a square piece of black paper and practised colour mixing to create squares of colour. I used their squares to create an Elmer to display other Elmer books the children could read/look at independently.

Kandisnsky - Concentric Circles

Concentric Circles by Kandinsky. Each child painted circles on a circular shaped piece of paper. All the circles were mounted on squares and put together to create a piece of artwork in the style of Kandinsky.

Felt Pictures

The children cut animal designs out of felt and used their sewing skills.

Winter Trees

Children learned about perspective and then painted the
trees to look as if walking through snowy woods.

The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch

Art work display inspired by the story. Children used a mixture of paint and texture to create the sea, rocks and light houses.

Penguin - Cold

We had been talking about Polar regions in our Literacy lesson. The children painted their own penguins to make this COLD display.

Panoramic Dinosaur Timeline

The children researched in books to find out about terrain and dinosaurs living in different periods through time. They made posters to show what they had found and drew dinosaurs to put on display. Thanks to my very skilled TA they made the volcanoes etc for the background.

Printing

The children made some prints using different parts of the hands (finger tip, fist, palm etc) and made a line of each. Created a border and title out of newspaper print and also backed each piece of work in newspaper, it creates a real effect!!!

Sandpaper Prints

Oil pastel and wax crayon- ironed onto fabric.

Polly Phillips

Mosaic

Topic looked at Roman mosaic designs. Pupils draw a basic geometric pattern and cut/stuck coloured paper on design. Very effective.

Winter Trees

After much sketching and work on technique, pupils used charcoal to draw a winter tree with a colour wash for the background. Pupils chose wintry colours for the wash.

Mosaic

We made mosaic rainbow pictures. First we drew the outline of our fish. Then we used squares of paper to create a mosaic effect. We displayed the fish in a fish tank.

Trees

Really colourful display.  The children used coloured chalk and pastels on black paper to draw different types of trees.

Art Pattern

Various pattern forms investigated as a class - natural rubbings taken around the school using wax crayon, tessellating patterns, repeated patterns, Mexican patterns, symmetrical patterns, etc - clustered together for more effective display.

Picasso

Paintings inspired by Picasso.

Mendhi Modroc - Artifact Drawing

Pupils made modroc hands, painted in skin tones and drew Mendhi patterns. Also used topic collection of Indian artifacts to draw still life.

Matisse

Children mixed colours and painted the background. Shapes of a given topic were cut out and glued in place. Based on Vegetables collage work by Matisse.

Take a Seat

A bit busy but get a lot of comments about it. D.T. project followed by making chairs out of rolled newspaper.

Printing Activity

Art (William Morris) & the Victorians

Children based their artwork on tiny details from the work of William Morris.  Working in groups, using pastels, children enlarged the chosen pieces.

Colour experiments

Experimenting with mixing white/black to green paint a little at a time.

Willow pattern cc.Literacy

In Literacy we studied the Willow pattern story – the children then wrote a condensed version. We looked at the pattern on plates and I explained that the pictures actually tell the story. The children then recreated the pattern on paper plates.

Cityscapes

The background was created by doing a two-tone colour wash (red/ yellow or purple/yellow). The foreground was made up of buildings cut out of black sugar paper.

Pointillism

After studying the work of Georges Seurat , the children recreated his picture ‘ Sun day Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte ' . They drew an outline of the images and then filled them in used different coloured dots.

Plant Study

Masks

Masks were studied using the internet for ideas. Papier Mache balloons used to create the shape for the mask which was then decorated lavishly.

Jungle Theme

Variety of media used to create jungle display. Willow and tissue paper were used to create the large elephant in corner.

Using A4 painted (red - pink) to weave on black sugar paper and using different textures of fabric to create a collage. Really nice for art areas or walkways.
